István Széchenyi University was founded in 1968 and is located in Győr. The main campus of Győr University (Széchenyi István University), located on the banks of the Danube and just a few minutes’ walk from the city centre, has recently undergone a major infrastructure renovation including the expansion of the university’s student accommodation with the addition of two new, high-quality and well-equipped dormitories. With an international integration programme, 24 English-taught programmes at all levels will be offered from September 2019. International Bachelor’s programmes include Vehicle Engineering, Logistics Engineering, Civil Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Food Engineering, Business Administration & Management and a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations. Higher education in forestry, a long-standing field of study, the educational core of the university began with the institute established for training in mining and metallurgy. The School of Mining Officers was established by decree of King Charles III, signed on 22 June 1735 in Selmecbánya. Maria Theresa laid the foundation for academic education with a decree signed on 22 October 1762. A joint meeting of the Treasury and the Royal Mining and Mining Chambers in June 1807, discussed the establishment of a School of Forestry, in addition to the Mining Academy.
