Vietnam is a country with an ideal tropical climate for growing fruit trees, especially mangoes – one of the most popular and exported fruits today. Here, we would like to introduce 3 typical mango varieties that are popular in the domestic and foreign markets: Keo Mango, Cat Chu Mango and Taiwanese Mango. Each variety has its own characteristics in shape, flavor and application – suitable for each consumer segment.

🥭 1. Kaew Mango – Rustic flavor, harmonious crunch and sweetness

✅ Morphological characteristics:

  • Size: Average 10–15cm/fruit
  • Weight: 400–600g/fruit
  • Fruit peel: Green when young and can turn light yellow when ripe, thick, slightly rough skin, easy to preserve and transport.
  • Fruit flesh: Light yellow, solid, less fibrous, crispy (when green), slightly sweet and fragrant when ripe. Usually eaten both green and ripe.
  • Seeds: Thin, small compared to the size of the fruit, giving more flesh

✅ Flavor & Application:

  • Mildly sour, sweet, crunchy when eaten raw
  • Suitable for eating fresh, dipping in salt and chili, making salad, mixing salad, or eating with fish sauce and sugar in the Western style
  • When ripe, can be used to make smoothies, light-flavored juices

  • Easy to preserve, transport long distances without being damaged
  • Suitable for domestic market and raw food segment
  • Reasonable price, high yield, harvest all year round

🥭 2. Cat Chu Mango – Sweet, aromatic, export standard

✅ Outstanding features:

  • Origin: Traditional mango variety of Dong Thap, especially Cao Lanh region.
  • Shape: Oval fruit, tapered towards the tail.
  • Peel: Bright yellow when ripe, shiny.
  • Flesh: Orange-yellow, soft and smooth, almost fiber-free.
  • Flavor: Sweet, characteristic mild aroma.
  • Average weight: 350–450g/fruit.

✅ Application:

  • Eat directly cooked, make smoothies, juices, mango jam or high-class desserts.
  • Popular in demanding markets such as Japan, Korea, EU.

  • High quality, meeting export standards.
  • Easy to consume in both domestic and international markets.
  • Specialty brand of the Southwest region.

🥭 3. Taiwanese mango – Large fruit, thick flesh, slightly sweet

✅ Morphological characteristics:

  • Shape: Taiwanese mangoes are usually large, elongated or slightly round depending on the specific variety. Average weight is from 0.8 to 1.5 kg, sometimes up to 2 kg/fruit.
  • Peel: When ripe, the peel is yellowish green or pinkish red (with red Taiwanese mango), thin and easy to peel.
  • Flesh: Deep yellow, less fibrous, soft, sweet and slightly aromatic. In particular, this mango variety often has flat or very small seeds, the flesh accounts for a high proportion.
  • Seeds: Small, flat

  • Mild sweetness, not too strong, mild aroma
  • Easy to eat, suitable for the elderly and children
  • Suitable for processing: dried, juice, canned food, industrial smoothies
